You can take your life back from Anxiety.
You may be good at hiding anxiety, but it’s keeping you up at night with a long list of demands. You may have a hard time enjoying good things in your life, because anxiety feels like the moon could crash into the earth at any moment. Your nervous system may be running so hot that if something isn’t perfect, it can send you spiraling into a panic. Maybe you get stuck in decision making, immobilized by wanting to make the right choice or not being able to say no.
If you have religious trauma, you may have been anxious since childhood, worrying about sins that you didn’t even realize you were committing, or being afraid for people who were going to hell.
I get it, and I’m here to help. I help sensitive, caring people of all genders tame anxiety, get unstuck, and move forward with peace and confidence.
If you’re ready to start feeling better, schedule a free introduction phone call with me today. I offer therapy for anxiety in California, Idaho, and Florida.
Hi, I’m Emily Maynard, and I’m an anxiety therapist in Orange County.
Like it or not, anxiety is an adaptive function of our human nervous system. We couldn’t keep going without some anxiety. Sometimes it helps my clients to reframe anxiety as caring - caring is a good thing! It helps you do well at your job or in school and it keeps you committed to your friends and values.
But all caring, all the time can lead to overwhelm, overthinking, distress, panic, and people-pleasing burnout. You don’t want to disappoint people you care about, so you overcommit. You start to feel irritable and panicky, and just want to check out. You’re afraid of disappointing people. You lose control of the caring.
Too much anxiety keeps you from being who you need to be in the world. Anxiety can be helpful when it’s in the backseat of your car, but when it’s in the driver’s seat of your life, it’s exhausting.
As therapist specializing in anxiety treatment in California, Idaho, and Florida, I can help you change your relationship to anxiety. We’ll start by identifying a little more about that kind of life you want to live - the one anxiety is keeping from you. Maybe you’d like to date or relate to your partner differently, and build a more secure attachment style. Maybe you want to have more options in the evening than checking out with wine and scrolling on your phone. You might you want to get your body to stop panicking so you can actually be a leader in your job. Or maybe you want to be able to say no to your parent, without feeling so guilty.
Once we’ve identified your values and goals, we can move forward with personalized anxiety treatment. Together, we’ll re-write the new story in your nervous system, so your body can remain calm under reasonable pressure and only activate when truly needed. I use somatic cues to help my clients notice when anxiety shows up and understand how to shift it. You won’t get standardized worksheets, a list of coping skills to add more to your to-do list, or the same treatment as somebody else. I offer personalized therapy to help you break the anxiety cycle, and grow in confidence and self-compassion.
